Women’s Soccer Recap Sept. 29

Women's Soccer vs. NEO, 2018

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Lady Roadrunners (5-6, 1-1 in Region 16) picked up an important 2-1 victory over Metropolitan Community College (MCC) in a Region 16 match on Saturday, Sept. 29 at the Fred E. Davis Sports Complex. The win was a record-setting one for the program, breaking the record for victories in a season.

MCC got on the scoreboard first with a goal with less than 42 minutes remaining in the match. SFCC tied the match with a goal from freshman forward Alys Beadle of England, when she picked up a loose ball on a corner kick and found the back of the net. Beadle was not finished. She scored the game-winning goal with about four minutes remaining in the match with a long-range shot that she was able to put inside the right lower corner of the goal.

SFCC Soccer Head Coach Jaime Beltran was happy with the way his team played.

"They refused to let each other down," said Beltran. "Our girls have come a very long way throughout the season. We do not have a superstar. It is a team effort. I'm really proud of the girls and happy that they were able to get this victory."

Beadle led the team in shots with five and shots on goal with three. As a team, SFCC recorded eight shots with five on goal.

Freshman goalkeepers Samantha Curphey of Kansas City and Atziry Plascencia El Paso, Texas split time in goal for SFCC. Curphey made five saves in the match. Plascencia recorded three saves in the match.
