Aug. 29 Neosho County Community College at Clover Dell Park Sedalia
The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Lady Roadrunners fell to Neosho County Community College (NCCC) 2-0 on Wednesday, Aug. 29 in Sedalia.
NCCC got on the scoreboard first with a goal in the fifth minute.
SFCC had an opportunity to tie the match in the first half, but a penalty kick bounced off the post sending the Roadrunners into halftime down 1-0. Neosho added a goal in the 80th minute to secure the victory.
State Fair had a few good scoring chances in the second half, but were unable to convert those opportunities into points.
Jessica Coble of Sedalia, Missouri and Bianca Meza of El Paso, Texas led the team in shots with three. Samantha Curphey of Kansas City, Missouri got the start in goal for SFCC and made eight saves in the match.
"We played well in the second half," said SFCC Soccer Head Coach Jaime Beltran. "It was a good steppingstone to where we want to go. I feel like the girls learned a lot about what they're able to do today. We finally played within the system and we were competitive. It is a good first step."
Sept. 2 Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College at Sedalia
The State Fair Community College Lady Roadrunners (0-4) opened up the home portion of their schedule on Sunday, Sept. 2 losing to the Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College (NEO) Lady Norse 2-1.
Alys Beadle of England got SFCC on the scoreboard inside the opening minute when she intercepted a pass in the box of the Lady Norse and put it past the goalkeeper.
NEO tied the game at the 10-minute mark of the opening half and put away the game winning goal at the 24-minute mark of the opening half.
Coble led her team with four shots, two of which were on goal. Curphey and Atziry Plascencia of El Paso, Texas split time in the net for SFCC. Curphey recorded six saves and Plascencia made five.
"It was a good first goal, unfortunately we couldn't hold the lead," said Beltran. "We played a good second half. I thought we were the better team in the second half. We just couldn't get anything to go in in the second half. We are still a work in progress. They need to understand that you have to play the entire 90 minutes. We are getting there and they're getting better every time that we go out to play."
SFCC will host Jefferson College in a Missouri Community College Athletic Conference match on Wednesday, Sept. 5. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
