Nov. 26 St. Louis Community College at Sedalia, Missouri
The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Lady Roadrunners defeated the St. Louis Community College Archers 68-58 in a conference game on Tuesday, Nov. 26 inside the Davis Center in Sedalia.
The Archers led 33-26 at halftime. SFCC cut down their turnovers, had better ball movement, and took a two-point lead at the end of three quarters. The Lady Roadrunners emerged with a hard-fought victory to open their conference schedule.
"I wanted us to get touches inside the paint," said Lady Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Bucher. "We ran nothing but plays for our post players and they were either able to get fouled or score. We also wanted our guards to step on top of the screen, because St. Louis made a lot of three-point shots. Our free- throw percentage has to go up."
Sophomore guard/forward Nadia Thorman-McKey of Evanston, Illinois led the team in scoring with 20 points off the bench and tied for the team lead in steals with freshman guard Laila McNeal of Chicago, Illinois with three each. Freshman guard Kaiya Braggs of Ruston, Louisiana contributed 13 points and a team-high seven assists. Freshman Darlisha Reed of Gary, Indiana registered a double-double with 10 points and a team-high 13 rebounds. Sophomore Connor Watkins of Charleston, Missouri led her team with four blocked shots.
Nov. 29 Lindenwood University-Belleville Junior Varsity at Moberly, Missouri
SFCC defeated the Lindenwood University-Belleville Junior Varsity 84-58 in the opening round of the Moberly Classic on Friday, Nov. 28. The Lady Roadrunners led 30-15 at the end of one quarter and never looked back.
"We were able to control the game the entire way," said Bucher. "It was a great win for us. We had some kids put up some good numbers. We were able to get contributions from players that we have not had this year."
Reed had a double-double with 30 points and 27 rebounds, leading her team in both categories. Thorman-McKey added 19 points, a team-high five assists, and six steals. Freshman guard Aleah Bell of Margate, Florida pitched in with 10 points. Watkins registered three blocked shots.
Nov. 30 Kennedy-King College at Moberly, Missouri
SFCC (5-8, 2-0 in the in MCCAC) closed out their portion of the Moberly Classic with a 107-48 victory over Kennedy-King College on Saturday, Nov. 30 in Moberly, Missouri. The victory was the third in a row for the Lady Roadrunners.
SFCC jumped out to a 37-13 advantage at the end of one quarter and continued to dominate for the rest of the game.
"We jumped out early," said Bucher. "I didn't substitute as much early in the game, until we had a big lead. We played the players who haven't been playing as much in the third and fourth quarters. It was a great experience for those players to get more playing time. It was a good weekend."
SFCC had five players in double figures. Reed continued her good play scoring 35 points, while pulling down 11 rebounds. Watkins had 17 points to go along with a team-high 14 rebounds and five blocked shots. Freshman guard Ryann Haynes of St. Louis, Missouri pitched in with 15 points. Freshman guard Madison Lenz of Boonville added 13 points and 10 rebounds. Bell contributed 11 points. Thorman-McKey pulled down 10 rebounds, five assists, and six steals.
