Lady Roadrunners Close Preseason Schedule

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Lady Roadrunners traveled to Lawrence, Kansas for the Midwest Juco Jamboree on Saturday, Oct. 19. SFCC fell in all three scrimmages on the day. The format for the scrimmages was four quarters with a 13 minute running clock in each quarter.

SFCC played Western Nebraska in their first scrimmage at the event. Western Nebraska won 52-26.

"Western Nebraska is an athletic team," said Lady Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Bucher. "They had a really good post player who is probably the best post player that we have played against this fall. Western Nebraska also shot the ball really well. They pressed us full-court. Our guards are very young. They got up on us and we were trying to catch up from the beginning."

SFCC lost to McCook Community College 59-48 in their second scrimmage of the event.

"We won the first half against McCook," said Bucher. "In the second half, we didn't get out in transition as much and McCook took advantage. They put a lot of defensive pressure on our guards. That game was a tale of two halves."

SFCC fell to Colby Community College 52-22 in the final scrimmage of the event.

"Colby just pressed us from the beginning of the game," said Bucher. "We didn't do a good job of handling their pressure. We knew that all the scrimmages would be a learning experience. We have played very good teams in order see what we need to improve on."

SFCC will open the season at home on Nov. 1 against Vincennes University in the McDonald's Classic. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.

"We need to continue to work on handling the basketball and getting comfortable with who our point guard is going to be," said Bucher. "We need to get more comfortable running our plays. Hopefully, we will continue to develop throughout the season."
