Lady Roadrunners Basketball Recaps Jan. 23-26

Jan. 23 Crowder College at Neosho, Missouri

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Lady Roadrunners lost a Region 16 game to Crowder College in Neosho, Missouri on Wednesday Jan. 23 by a score of 73-69.

The Lady Roughriders led 17-10 at the end of one quarter, but SFCC cut the advantage to 35-32 by halftime. SFCC controlled the third quarter, outscoring Crowder 26-14 to take the lead. However, the Lady Roughriders outscored SFCC 24-11 in the final quarter to erase the deficit and emerge victorious.

"The game was close all the way through until about the third quarter," said Lady Roadrunners Head Basketball Coach Kevin Bucher. "We built the lead all the way up to 11 points. We had some crucial passing mistakes that cost us the game in the fourth quarter. We had a five-point lead with about two minutes left and we just weren't able to close the game out."

Sophomore guard Jazzmyn Elston of Rossville, Georgia led SFCC in scoring with 22 points. Sophomore guard Monique Esbrand of London, England contributed 19. Freshman forward Dalen Tate of Lawrenceville, Georgia added 11.

Jan. 26 Mineral Area College at Sedalia

SFCC fell by a score of 76-48 to the Mineral Area College Lady Cardinals from Park Hills, Missouri on Saturday, Jan.26 in a Region 16 and Missouri Community College Athletic Conference Game.

Mineral Area jumped out to an early 7-2 lead with about seven minutes remaining in the first quarter and never looked back.

"I thought we had six opportunities to jump out to a lead, instead Mineral got the points," said Bucher. "We have to have a better effort, starting in practice. Our practices haven't been very good and it shows during games."

SFCC (4-12, 0-4 in Region 16, 0-5 in the MCCAC) were led in scoring by Esbrand with 10 points. Tate pulled down a team-high seven rebounds. Tate and Elston tied for the team lead in assists with three. Tate registered a team-high two blocked shots.

SFCC will be back at home on Wednesday, Jan. 30 when they take on the Metropolitan Community College Lady Wolves. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
