Lady Roadrunners Open Preseason Schedule

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Lady Roadrunners went 1-2 over the weekend as the team had their first opportunity to scrimmage against another opponent on Saturday, Oct. 13 at the Southwest Women's Juco Showcase in Frisco, Texas.

SFCC played Pearl River Community College from Mississippi in their first scrimmage of the event. SFCC lost that game 76-48. Each scrimmage consisted of four 11-minute running clock quarters.

"We played really well at the beginning of the scrimmage," said Lady Roadrunners Basketball Head Coach Kevin Bucher. "Pearl River pressed and used a half-court trap and haven't gotten to do a lot of that yet, but we handled it pretty well. Pearl River shot the ball very well and we simply did not."

SFCC took on Garden City Community College from Kansas in the second game of the day. SFCC won that game 53-31.

"I thought Jazzmyn Elston, Nokoia White, and Brionna Hill all played well against Garden City," said Bucher. "Farah Mesidor played well at times along with Dalen Tate. Our defense was good for the most part.

In the final game at the event, SFCC lost a hard-fought game to Barton Community College 43-40.

"Barton was probably the best team we played," said Bucher. "It was a one-point game with 17 seconds left. We had the ball going for the last shot, before they (Barton) got a steal and laid the ball in for the win. I was pleased with our defense and free throw shooting. Offensively, we looked good at times. We have a lot of work to do, but they played hard and they fought hard. We shot the ball well. Monique Esbrand played really well against Barton."

SFCC will travel to Lawrence, Kansas on Saturday, Oct. 20 to play in the Midwest Juco Jamboree.
