Lady Roadrunners Region 16 Softball Tournament Preview

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Lady Roadrunners have earned the number four seed in the upcoming NJCAA Region 16 Division I Softball Tournament, which begins Friday, May 3. SFCC will take on the number five seed North Central Missouri College at 9 a.m. at the Urban Youth Academy in Kansas City, Missouri.

The teams split four games earlier in the season. SFCC won the first game of doubleheader played on March 26 in Trenton 4-2. North Central responded to win 5-3 in game two. The teams matched up again in Sedalia on April 22 and North Central won the first game 9-1. SFCC bounced back to take game two 5-4.

"I think this will be a good game," said SFCC Softball Head Coach Lyndsey Talbot. "North Central and State Fair were the only two teams that split against each other both times that we played during the regular season. Our girls knew that is who we were probably going to play and I think they're ready for it."

Coach Talbot believes that her team just needs to play its game in order to be successful.

"If Madison (Love) pitches the way she can pitch and if our team hits the way they can hit, we shouldn't have any issues," said Talbot. "It just comes down to putting it all together at the right time."

The winner of game one will advance to take on the top-seeded Crowder Lady Riders at noon in game four. The loser of game one will play on Saturday, May 4 at 9 a.m.

"We have seen everyone in the Region," said Talbot. "The girls aren't going to be surprised by anything. That is a nice thing about the setup of our Region Tournament, all the teams are together in one place and you can watch the other teams play."

The double elimination tournament continues through May 5.
