After two weeks away from game action because of weather, the State Fair Community College Lady Roadrunners softball team finally returned to the field with a road trip to Oklahoma.
Feb. 28 Eastern Oklahoma State College at Wilburton, Oklahoma
SFCC split a pair of games against Eastern Oklahoma State College in Wilburton, Oklahoma on Thursday, Feb. 28 dropping the first game 8-4 before bouncing back to win game two 14-8.
In game one, freshman utility player Reagan Hockett of Sedalia, Missouri led the offense with three hits and two runs scored from the leadoff spot. She also stole a base. Sophomore pitcher/first baseman Madison Love of Holts Summit, Missouri had a hit and drew a pair of walks. Freshman outfielder Liz Nimmer of Warrensburg, Missouri drove in a run.
Love went the distance in the circle for the Lady Roadrunners. She gave up eight runs, six earned, while striking out 10.
As a team, SFCC recorded 15 hits in game two. Hockett continued her good day at the plate with four hits. She scored two runs and drove in a pair. She also stole a base in the game. Love contributed three hits, including two doubles. She drove in four runs and scored one. Sophomore outfielder Jacki Watson of Raytown, Missouri had a pair of hits to go along with three runs batted in and two run scored.
Freshman catcher/utility player Jordan Fischer of New Florence, Missouri had a pair of hits and a run scored. Sophomore midfielder Brytni Hummel of Garden City, Missouri contributed two hits and two runs scored. Sophomore outfielder Victoria McCloud of Houston, Missouri scored two runs. Freshman outfielder Presley Floyd of Strafford, Missouri scored three runs and drew three walks.
Freshman pitcher/infielder Alissa Collette of Strafford, Missouri got the start in the circle for SFCC. She pitched a combined six and two-thirds innings allowing four runs; two earned on eight hits and struck out five. Freshman pitcher/utility player Abby Rapp of Stewartsville, Missouri pitched one-third inning.
"We did not play well offensively or defensively," said Lady Roadrunners Softball Head Coach Lyndsey Talbot. "Our bats did come alive in the second game scoring 14 runs, but we gave up eight. We had seven errors in game two, we were fortunate to come away with the split."
March 1 Carl Albert College State College at Poteau, Oklahoma
SFCC closed their trip to Oklahoma with a doubleheader against Carl Albert State College in Poteau, Oklahoma on Friday, March 1. Carl Albert swept the Lady Roadrunners by scores of 8-4 and 7-1.
In game one, Fischer led the SFCC offense with three hits, including a home run. She also drove in two runs and scored a run. Love recorded a pair of hits to go along with an RBI and a run scored. Wilson also drove in a run.
Love went the distance in the circle for SFCC. She allowed eight runs, seven earned and struck out seven. She was the losing pitcher.
"Their (Carl Albert) pitcher really mixed her speeds well and we couldn't get adjusted to it," said Talbot. "She had us flustered from the first inning. We had our chances to get back in the game. I think this whole trip was kind of an eye-opener for our team."
In game two, the SFCC offense struggled with one run on five hits. Watson, Fischer, Hummel, sophomore infielder Abby Rector, and Floyd all registered one hit in the game for SFCC. Hummel hit a solo home run for the Lady Roadrunners in the top of the fifth inning to provide the only offense for SFCC.
Collette took the loss in the circle for SFCC. She pitched four and two-thirds innings, while giving up 10 hits on seven runs. The Lady Roadrunners record currently stands at 3-3 on the season.
"We did not have enough team at bats in all four games," said Talbot. "We didn't do a good job of moving runners and we had way too many strikeouts. Jordan Fischer did play well on Friday. She was consistent at the plate in both games of the doubleheader."
