Roadrunners Soccer Recap Sept. 4

Sept. 4 Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College at Miami, Oklahoma

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners traveled to Miami, Oklahoma on Wednesday, Sept. 4 to take on the Northeastern Oklahoma (NEO) A&M College Golden Norse. SFCC lost in double overtime 2-1.

NEO got on the scoreboard first when they scored off of a corner kick early in the first half. The Norse took that advantage into halftime.

SFCC got their offense going in the second half to tie the game.  Freshman midfielder Alex Mee of England scored off of a pass from freshman forward Jordan Bishop of Australia.

"We had several opportunities to score in the first overtime," said Roadrunners Soccer Head Coach Jaime Beltran. "We were able to get some balls inside the box. NEO got one counterattack; one of their players took a shot from outside the 18 yard box. Our goalkeeper got a hand on the ball, but he couldn't get enough of the ball."

Freshman goalkeepers Nicolas Olmos of Bolivia and Blaise Mucho of Houston, Texas split time in goal for SFCC and recorded one save each in the game.

The Roadrunners recorded 17 shots, six of which were on goal.  Bishop took four shots to lead the team. Sophomore midfielder Angelo Salomone of Australia had three shots for SFCC.

SFCC (2-3-1) will return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 11 in another important Region 16 match against Metropolitan Community College. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
