Three Roadrunners Earn All-Region Honors

Three State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners' soccer players have earned All-Region 16 honors, as voted on by the coaches in the Region.

Sophomore midfielder Vasbert Ledger of Lafayette, Louisiana received first-team honors. Ledger was named to the All-Region 16 Second-Team as a freshman. Sophomore goalkeeper Juan Jurkevicius of Bolivia was named to the second-team along with freshman midfielder Mani Hondroudakis of Australia.

Ledger started in all 15 games as a sophomore. He finished second on the team in goals scored with six. He tied for the team lead in assists with three and ranked second on the team in points with 15. He led the Roadrunners in shots this year with 67, a team-high 30 were on goal.

"Vasbert was my first recruit when I got the job here at State Fair," said SFCC Soccer Head Coach Jaime Beltran. "He was a hard-working and very creative player who was very dedicated. He has been the heart and soul what we have done here for the last two years."

Jurkevicius anchored the SFCC defense in his only season with the Roadrunners. He played and started in a team-high 13 games in goal. He recorded a .745 save percentage with 76 saves and one shutout on the season.

"Juan was a big addition for us this year in the goal as a transfer," said Beltran. "He kept us in some games that without him, we are not in. He was huge for us in the Region Tournament Quarterfinal making three saves on penalty kicks and scoring a penalty kick. As the captain, he (Jurkevicius) was a big part of what we did. He provided leadership both on and off the field."

Hondroudakis started in all 15 games this season. He led the team in goals with seven. He tied for the team lead in assists with three and led the team in points with 17. He registered 24 shots with 16 on goal. Hondroudakis made six of his seven penalty kick attempts and scored a game-winning goal. He currently leads the nation in penalty kick attempts and penalty kicks made.

"He performed well as a holding midfielder and defender for us," said Beltran. "He is the only guy that we have who is currently leading the nation in any statistical category."

SFCC earned the four seed in the Region 16 Tournament and hosted a region quarterfinal match. SFCC finished the season 5-6-4.
