Roadrunners Basketball Recaps Dec. 3-10

Dec. 3 Next Level Prep at Sedalia, Missouri

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners beat the Next Level Prep Panthers from Wichita, Kansas 106-78 on Tuesday, Dec. 3 inside the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center.

"Our guys really played well as a team," said Roadrunners Assistant Coach Adam Short. "We scored 39 field goals for the game and 29 of those were assisted. We told our guys in a game like this, you have to come and compete at a high level. The challenge is when you get a lead, can you continue to extend it, and I thought for the most part tonight we were able to do that."

Sophomore guard Kailleb Walton-Blanden of Rapid City, South Dakota led six Roadrunners in double figures with 22 points. Redshirt freshman forward Sarion McGee of Milwaukee, Wisconsin contributed 15 points along with redshirt freshman guard Nate McClure of Houston, Texas. McClure also pulled down eight rebounds. Sophomore guard Damaria Franklin of Chicago, Illinois chipped in with 14 points and a team-high seven assists. Freshman guard John Egbuta of Bronx, New York and sophomore forward Malcolm Townsel of Chicago, Illinois added 10 points each. Egbuta pulled down eight rebounds. He also registered a team-high two blocked shots. Freshman forward Kohen Thompson of Memphis, Tennessee led the team in steals with three.

Dec. 8 St. Louis Community College at St. Louis, Missouri

SFCC won a hard-fought 66-65 battle in overtime against the St. Louis Community College Archers on Sunday, Dec. 8 in the St. Louis Community College Shootout.

"St. Louis is a good team," said Roadrunners Head Coach Matt Brown. "We knew it would be a close game.

The Archers took a 51-41 lead in the second half, which was largest lead held by either team in the contest.

"We had some guys off the bench that did well," said Brown. "Keith DeLoatch (guard of Middletown, Delaware) came in and played some for us. Michael Wright (forward of Chicago, Illinois) played well along with John Egbuta. We didn't shoot the ball well from three, but we got some defensive stops that we needed to. Nate McClure made a big three-point shot in the corner for us. We played a lot of different guys at crucial times, so hopefully that will help us during the second semester."

The game was tied at 59 at the end of regulation, but SFCC made the plays in the extra session to emerge with the victory.

Franklin scored 21 points and registered a team-high six steals. He tied for the team lead with Thompson, dishing out four assists each. Franklin also pulled down eight rebounds, which also tied for the team lead with Thompson. Egbuta pitched in with 12 points and tied for the team lead in blocked shots with two with redshirt freshman forward Dimitri Georgiadis of Richmond, Virginia.
