Nov. 27 Central Methodist University Junior Varsity at Sedalia
The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners used a good shooting effort from beyond the three-point arc to defeat the Central Methodist University Eagles from Fayette, Missouri 98-60 on Tuesday, Nov. 27 inside the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center.
SFCC led 47-26 at halftime and cruised to victory. The Roadrunners shot 45.5% from beyond the three-point arc and out rebounded CMU 56-33.
"We had a lot of guys that don't get a lot of minutes get some significant minutes tonight," said Roadrunners Basketball Head Coach Matt Brown. "It was good for our team. Tonight was the first time all year that we actually made some shots and our assist to turnover ratio was pretty good."
Three Roadrunners scored in double figures. Sophomore guard Dru Smith of Kansas City, freshman guard Damaria Franklin of Chicago, Illinois, and freshman wing Malcolm Townsel of Evanston, Illinois tied for the team lead in scoring with 15 points each.
Freshman wing Maurice Murray of Sicklerville, New Jersey added 11 points. Sophomore center Mike Stone of Brooklyn, New York pulled down a team-leading 12 rebounds. Sophomore guard Josh Humphries of Tampa, Florida dished out a team-high seven of the team's 29 assists. Freshman wing Jacayah Webster of Columbia, Tennessee led the team in blocked shots with three. Franklin led the team in steals with three.
Nov. 30 Northwest Florida State College at Ottumwa, Iowa
SFCC dropped a hard-fought 87-78 decision to Northwest Florida State College (NFSC) in the Indian Hills Classic in Ottumwa, Iowa on Friday, Nov. 30.
SFCC (5-8) trailed NFSC, the top-ranked team in the NJCAA Division I preseason men's basketball rankings, 43-33 at halftime. The Roadrunners outscored the Raiders by one point in second half, but it wasn't enough.
"I think we've been playing better basketball since the Moberly Classic," said Brown. "We took better care of the ball and we're and shooting the ball better. Hopefully, that will help us finish the first half of the season strong before we go on break. Northwest Florida is a very good team, so I was very proud of our effort and hopefully, it will translate into some wins this week."
Smith led the team in scoring with 21 points. Franklin contributed 20 points. Freshman forward L.J. Bryan of Chelteham, Maryland pulled down a team-high 13 rebounds. Humphries led the team in assists with five.
As a team, SFCC knocked down 10 of 18 three-point attempts and shot almost 47% from the field.
