Men's basketball recaps for Nov. 28 - Dec. 2

Nov. 28, North Arkansas College at Harrison, Arkansas

The Roadrunners traveled to Harrison to take on the North Arkansas College Pioneers. SFCC dropped a 103-102 decision in a game that featured 10 lead changes and seven ties.

The Pioneers led 56-47 at halftime and stretched the advantage at 82-63 in the second half. SFCC made a furious come back to take a 102-100 lead.

"I think our defense got a little bit better," said Head Coach Matt Brown. "We changed defenses, and we finally started making some shots."

The Pioneers took possession of the ball with 22 seconds remaining. They knocked down a three-point shot with about six seconds on the clock to take a one-point lead. SFCC drove the ball the length of the floor, but missed the shot.

Freshman guard Tyreek Scott-Grayson led the Roadrunners in scoring with 25 points and tied for the team lead in steals with three. Sophomore guard Andre (A.J.) Walker contributed 20 points, pulled down a team-high eight rebounds, led in assists with 11, and registered three steals. Freshman guard/forward Caleb Coleman pitched in 18 points. Sophomore guard Grant Gelonadded 17 points, knocking down five out of eight three-point attempts. Freshman guard/forwardLePear Toles scored 14 points. SFCC hit 12 three-point shots as a team.

Dec. 1, Northwest Kansas Technical College at Council Bluffs, Iowa

SFCC traveled to Council Bluffs to participate in the Iowa Western Classic. On Friday SFCC dropped a hard-fought 86-83 decision in overtime to the Northwest Kansas Technical College Mavericks from Goodland, Kansas. The game was tied at 73 at the end of regulation. Northwest Kansas outscored SFCC 13-10 in overtime for the win.

The game featured 10 lead changes and seven ties. The Mavericks took the biggest lead of the contest 66-54 in the second half before SFCC fought their way back into the game.

"Northwest Kansas was a team that had a lot of size," said Brown. "We were able to drive the ball to the basket and scored a lot of points in transition. We missed some free throws late in the game."

Toles tied for the team lead in scoring with 19 points and pulled down a team-high eight rebounds.Scott-Grayson contributed 19 points. Sophomore guard Derrick Brock, Jr. added 10 points. Walkerdished out a team-high six assists and led in steals with three.

Dec. 2, Sunrise Christian Academy at Council Bluffs, Iowa

The Roadrunners closed out their portion of the Iowa Western Classic with an 81-77 victory over the Sunrise Christian Academy Buffaloes. The game featured five lead changes and five ties. SFCC (9-3) jumped out to an early 24-9 lead.

"We were able to get out in transition," said Brown. "We are usually pretty good when we do that. Four players scored in double figures."

SFCC led by eight points at halftime but were outscored 46-42 in the second half.

Coleman led the team in scoring with 18 points. Toles contributed 16 points. Scott-Grayson added 14 and freshman guard Dru Smith pitched in 11 points. Sophomore center Isaac Bassey pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds. Toles and Brock tied for team lead in assists with four. Gelon led in steals with four.

SFCC travels to Marshalltown, Iowa, to take on Marshalltown Community College at 7 p.m. Dec. 5.
