SFCC Spirit Squad emphasizes community service

Members of State Fair Community College's Spirit Squad participated in numerous community service events throughout the fall semester. They began the year participating in the college's 50th anniversary celebration event Sept. 16 on the Sedalia campus. Members sold water and soda at the women and men's soccer games and the car show.

They participated in the Smith-Cotton Homecoming parade and the annual Sedalia Area Chamber of Commerce Christmas parade promoting the 50th anniversary of SFCC and the annual Holiday Arts and Craft Show at the Davis Center. In addition, the squad helped with the Daum Museum's craft tables at the SFCC Foundation's Jingle on the Green and served as guides for the Holiday Homes Tour.

Community service and representing the college with pride is something that Head Coach Dana Page emphasizes in her program.

"Our community service activities let people know that we are not only here for education, but we also enjoy doing things in the community whenever we can," said Page. "Since this is the 50th anniversary of SFCC, we have been involved in a few more activities this fall. Our cheerleaders enjoy getting out into the community, and it is a way for us to give back to our community."

About 20 students are on the cheer team. Taylor Johnson is the assistant coach.
