Roadrunners Baseball Recaps Feb.14

Feb. 14 Highland Community College-Kansas at Marshall, Missouri

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners swept a doubleheader from the Highland Community College (Kansas) Scotties on Thursday, Feb. 14 by scores of 4-1 and 6-3.

The Scotties got on the scoreboard with a single run in the first inning. SFCC answered with three runs in the bottom of the second inning and added one run in the bottom of the third inning in the first of two seven-inning games.

Sophomore infielder Kyle Clark registered a pair of hits. Freshmen outfielders Brice Pannier and Ian Taylor each hit a home run. Taylor drove in two runs and Pannier added one. Sophomore infielder Gavin Jones also drove in a run.

Sophomore pitcher Logan Bexten got the start on the mound for SFCC. He pitched three innings and allowed three hits. He gave up one run. Freshman pitcher Austin Brooks picked up the win in relief. He pitched three innings and struck out three. Sophomore pitcher Chris Koehler picked up his third save of the season.

In game two, SFCC (4-2) scored a run in the bottom of the fifth inning. They added five runs in the sixth. Highland rallied in the top of the seventh with three runs, but could not overcome the deficit.

Taylor led the SFCC offense with a pair of doubles, while freshman infielder Malik Stevenson had a hit and a run scored one run. Clark hit a home run in the game.

Sophomore pitcher Jack Schmedding got the start for SFCC. He pitched six innings and struck out five, while scattering five hits. Sophomore pitcher Bill Cain got the save pitching two-thirds of an inning.

"It was nice to be able to come out and play two solid defensive games," said Roadrunners Baseball Head Coach Jud Kindle. "We were very good defensively and our pitchers also threw a lot of strikes."
