Townsel and McGee Announce College Choices

State Fair Community College (SFCC) sophomore guard Malcolm Townsel of Chicago, Illinois and redshirt freshman forward Sarion McGee of Milwaukee, Wisconsin recently signed National Letters of Intent to continue their collegiate careers. Townsel will continue his career at the College of the Holy Cross a Division I school in Worcester, Massachusetts. McGee will continue his career at Grambling State University in Grambling, Louisiana.

The men's basketball program has three student-athletes continuing their education and basketball careers at Division I institutions. Sophomore guard Damaria Franklin of Chicago, Illinois signed with Tennessee Tech during the early signing period this year. These three players helped the Roadrunners to a 16-14 record last season.

Townsel earned Second-Team All-Region 16 and Second-Team All-Conference honors as a sophomore. Townsel started in 29 of 30 games and shot 53.2 percent from the field, averaged 13 points, 2.7 assists, and 1.1 steals per game. Townsel scored 34 points against Moberly Area Community College as a sophomore.

"Malcolm can provide some leadership, accountability, and work ethic in that program," said Roadrunners Head Coach Matt Brown. "He is the first junior college player ever to sign at Holy Cross. Malcolm will be able to get to the basket as well as create opportunities for others. He has really earned this chance. He came here without a whole lot of opportunities and now he is leaving here with a really good athletic and academic scholarship. I am really happy for him and his family."

As a freshman, Townsel played in all 28 games, starting in six of the contests. He averaged 6.9 points and 2.4 rebounds per game. He scored a season-high 21 points against Graceland University junior varsity, while helping his team to a 12-16 record.

McGee played in 27 games, starting in 12 in his only season at SFCC. He pulled down 5.7 rebounds per contest, which placed him second on the team. McGee made 45.8 percent of his field-goal attempts and averaged 6.3 points per game. He scored a season-high 19 points against Bryant and Stratton College of Wisconsin.

"Sarion is strong guy who uses his body," said Brown. "Hopefully, his best basketball is still ahead of him. He will have three years left. He has an ability to rebound and score around the basket. He can also shoot out to 15 feet. I think he will be somebody who can help Grambling. His goal was to come here and finish his school work and get a chance to get a scholarship to a four year school and he got that opportunity."
