Brogdon Wins Individual Championship for SFCC

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Golf team had a successful fall debut on Sunday, Sept. 29, as part of the National Collegiate Club Golf Association at the Stonewolf Golf Club in Fairview Heights, Illinois. Hayden Brogdon won the event by two shots with a score of 74 on the par 72 course. Brogdon also made the All-Tournament team at the event. He paced the Roadrunners to a fifth place finish as a team with a total team score of 444 finishing only five shots out of third place.

"I am very proud of how hard Hayden Brogdon fought throughout the day," said SFCC Head Coach Wayne Ogle.  "He had a terrible start to the round, he was four over through his first four holes, but battled back to only one over par with two to play.  On the 17th tee I spoke with him and encouraged him to give himself two more good birdie chances on the closing holes.  Even though he did not make birdie on either of the last two holes, what he had already done was enough to secure the individual win.   Overall, he made three birdies and an eagle on the day."

Brenden Bauer finished tied for 10th individually with a score of 83. Brandon Plummer finished tied for tied for 32nd with a 93. Tucker Williams placed in a tie for 41st with a score of 95. Kendall Weymuth tied for 45th with a score of 99.

"As a team, we have some things to work on, each person played well at different times during the round," said Ogle. "We need to keep in mind throughout the day that we have to use all five scores for our team score.  So, anywhere we can save a shot it is very important that we do so. Overall, it was a good first event, and we are looking forward to this weekend in Maryville."

SFCC will return to action on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 5 and 6 at the Mozingo Lake Golf Club in Maryville, Missouri.
