Six State Fair Community College (SFCC) Lady Roadrunner's softball players have been recognized for their work in the classroom. Emily Wilson of Oak Grove, Macy Buzzanga of Knob Noster, Alissa Collette of Strafford, Liz Nimmer of Warrensburg, Presley Floyd of Strafford, and Victoria McCloud of Houston, Missouri, have earned the Easton National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-American Scholar Athlete Award.
Student-athletes have to maintain a 3.5 or above grade point average to be eligible for the award.
"Academics are a very important part of our program," said Lady Roadrunners Softball Head Coach Lyndsey Talbot. "Whenever we have girls come to campus, one of the first things I tell them is, you can play softball for up to four years, but you're going to be working for the rest of your life. It is very important that they have their priorities straight."
Coach Talbot constantly monitors the academic progress of her student-athletes.
"We have study hall, especially in fall," said Talbot. "If our players maintain A's and B's, I allow them to not come to study hall, because they have proven they can manage their own time. If the student-athlete has a C or below, they are required to come to study hall. In the spring, our student-athletes spend a lot of time studying on the bus, because we are gone so much."
