SFCC athletics’ golf tournament open for more teams

Golf enthusiasts still have time to form teams for State Fair Community College Athletics' eighth annual SFCC golf tournament on July 22 at the Sedalia Country Club, 5074 Highway Y.  Also featured are the popular live and silent auctions that are open to the public. Proceeds will benefit athletic scholarships.

The three-person scramble costs $90 per person and includes 18 holes of golf, a cart and lunch. Teams have a choice of an 8 a.m. or a 2 p.m. tee time. Mulligans will be available for $15 per team at the registration table. Prizes for the tournament will be Sedalia Country Club Pro Shop credit based on a full field.

The tournament is divided into four flights with awards given to the top four teams in each flight based on a full field. The first place winners of each flight will receive $300 in credit; second place $200, third place $150, and fourth place $100.

Sponsorship opportunities are still available for businesses and individuals. Title sponsorship is $1,500 and includes sponsor's name on signage on the first hole and three team entries. Scoreboard sponsorship is $750 and includes sponsor's name on the 10th hole and one team entry.

Driving range sponsorship for $500 includes signage on the driving range and one team entry. Beverage cart sponsorship for $350 includes signage on the beverage cart. Hole sponsorships for $100 includes signage on the tee boxes. Personal contributions in any amount are welcomed and appreciated.

Printable team registration and sponsorship forms are available at sfccmoroadrunners.com under the Support tab. Teams may also register online at the same link. Checks should be made payable to the SFCC Foundation. For additional information or assistance, call SFCC Athletics at (660) 596-7232.

A live auction will start 45 minutes after the 2 p.m. round finishes for anyone who wants to support student-athlete scholarships. Silent auction bidding will begin at 8 a.m. and close 30 minutes after the 2 p.m. round is finished. Supporters who want to donate items for the auctions can contact the Athletics office.

"Different kinds of autographed sports memorabilia and SFCC athletic items will be featured in the silent auction," said Lyndsey Talbot, SFCC softball head coach. "We also have different spa packages available and a good variety of items."

Proceeds can fund general athletic scholarships or can be designated for a specific scholarship such as the Mike Bryson Memorial Scholarship (men and women's soccer), the Bob Oehrke Memorial Scholarship (women's basketball), the Kent Gwaltney Memorial Scholarship (men's basketball), the Ross Dey Memorial Scholarship(baseball), and the Mandy Thomas Memorial Scholarship (softball).

"I really enjoy meeting community members at the golf tournament and auction," said Talbot. "The funds raised at this event are very important to all of our athletic programs. We are very appreciative of the support that we receive from our community."
