State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners Head Basketball Coach Matt Brown has announced the first two signees in his 2019-2020 recruiting class. Blake Butler and Nathan McClure have signed their National Letters of Intent and will begin their academic and athletic careers at SFCC in the fall.
Butler is a 6'4'' guard/forward from Louisville, Kentucky who played his high school basketball at Jeffersontown High School in Louisville, Kentucky for Head Coach Richard Duncan. Butler earned Sixth Region Player of the Year from the Courier-Journal. He averaged 16.5 points per game as a senior. He pulled down 9.3 rebounds per contest. Butler was also selected to the Kentucky All-Stars which are made up of the best basketball players in the state of Kentucky who then play a three-game event against the best basketball players from the state of Indiana.
"Blake is the type of guy who can get his own shot," said Brown. "He can shoot on the perimeter and get to the basket. He is also a good athlete and a good defender. I believe that is an area where he can really help us. I think he will be ready for the physicality of our Region. He also played a lot of football in high school."
Butler is undecided on a major at SFCC.
McClure is a 6'4''guard from The Woodlands, Texas who spent last year at Division I Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas where he redshirted. He was on the Dean's List at Texas State. He played his high school basketball at Concordia Lutheran High School in Tomball, Texas for Head Coach Bill Honeck.
McClure earned Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools 6A First-Team All-State as a senior. He helped his team to a 43-1 record. He averaged 13.2 points per game and pulled down 5.3 rebounds per contest. He dished out 3.2 assists per game.
McClure earned Second-Team All-State honors as a junior. He was a three-time First-Team All-District selection who finished his high school career with an overall record of 104-23. He was a member of the National Honor Society and a two-time Academic All-State Selection.
"Nathan is a really good shooter, who is also very athletic," said Brown. "I think he has a chance to be one of the best shooters in Region 16. He is continuing to develop his ball handling skills and his ability to use ball screens. He is a really good person and a good student who will really be able help us."
McClure plans to major in business at SFCC.
