SFCC Spirit Squad and Dance Team Attend Camps

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Spirit Squad and Roadettes finished their summer schedule by attending a Universal Cheer Association and Universal Dance Association Camp at the St. Louis College of Pharmacy on July 27-29. SFCC was represented by 17 cheerleaders and four Roadettes. Spirit Squad Head Coach Dana Page and Roadettes Head Coach Taylor Johnson were also in attendance. Coach Page believes that the camp was a good experience for both groups.

“A lot of what you learn at a camp like that is new material,” said Page. “There is also an important team bonding component that goes along with the camp. It is also an opportunity for our cheerleaders and dance team members to see what is required to cheer or dance at a four-year school.”

Both groups represented SFCC well, coming home with numerous awards from the camp. The cheerleaders received three Superior Ribbons for their evaluations on Fight Song, Timeout, and Sideline Routines. They also received a trophy for the Most Improved Program from the previous year, as well as a second-place trophy for Sideline Performance.

The Roadettes earned three Superior Ribbons and one Excellent Ribbon for their individual evaluations. They also received a Most Improved team award and a Superior Game Day Performance Trophy.

“We have learned several dances and several cheers,” said Page. “We worked a lot on stunts. This group of girls really stepped up and increased their stunting ability.  I think overall the camp experience went really well. There were 14 different teams representing cheer and dance. I think it was a good opportunity for the girls to see what other squads can do and what they are capable of doing themselves.”
